The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.53% and S&P 500 Index have each traded higher almost 80% of the time during the seven-day holiday period since 1950, gaining an average of 1.38% and 1.32% respectively, according to Dow Jones Market Data. The Nasdaq Composite COMP, +0.21% has traded higher 78% of the time since 1971, for a 1.81% average gain, while the Russell 2000 RUT, +0.39% has been up 71% of the time since 1987 and gained 1.5% on average.
